Glacial Blue Hills Trail Map

Mountain Outfitters
Team

Check out the new trail signs and
trail markers at Glacial Blue Hills.

Ted Sobotta led a team of volunteers
that put in 23 trail marker signs and 6 trail maps that will make
navigation on the area north of Beaver Dam Road much
easier.

The guys at www.fattireguides.com were extremely helpful by
creating GPS-based data of all the major trails and then transforming that data
into cool-looking trail maps.  Fattireguides will post a description of Glacial
Blue on their website, include a trail map, Google maps link so riders can find
the place, post pictures, and may even include a “virtual ride” using a
helmet-cam.  It’s a great website that lists great places to ride all over
Wisconsin.
Check them out!

Greenbush Party Update

Just a quick update, we are still on for the weekend bash at Greenbush.  The weather looks chilly, but nice...bring a blanket and we'll be having a fire at camp.

DNR will be holding a trail-building session at 10 am on Saturday (just found that out last night!), so if anyone wants to help cut more trail they can join in.

Hope to see you there!

Shawno, ya know...PHOTOS

A whole dump truck load of dirt seems to have been dropped on the rider faces...what do you think?

Check out the Photo Gallery...WARNING, this is what happens when Jay & Matt are turned loose with a camera...

Also, congrats to Lizzy and Sam J for making the WORS race results page!

Wolf River Rendevous in the Culvert

OK, OK...I'm really late getting this posted!  I hate it when work interferes with more important things...

Shaw'-a-no

Yes, it's a 3-syllable word.  Unless you're from T'rivers...

The bike trail is also known as Area 47, not to be confused with the tin-foil hat capital of the planet.

Speaking of tin-foil hats, you might consider trying one for this race - a 5' diameter culvert will be used to cross the highway as part of the race course.  This photo was posted on the WORS message board by someone who road the course earlier in the week:

PARTY!

We all have been talking about getting together for the end of the season...

We are going to go for a whole weekend!  The main gathering to be the afternoon and evening of Saturday, October 4th.  We have reserved a group campsite at the Greenbush trail.  Campsite #6 for October 3rd and 4th.  All are welcome to come and tent camp or just drop in when you can fit it into your busy schedule.  Everyone is invited to camp both nights to be able to get in as much fun as possible.

The plan is to do lots of day riding, night riding, eating, drinking and camping together! It is a great place and time for all the family members to get a chance to ride or just hang out.

Be there or be square!

Beat Down at Blue Mound

"It's not really racing. it's more like a trials ride."  Chris Tamborino summed it up pretty succinctly with that statement.  If you put all the rock gardens together from all the other Wisconsin trails together, you would have a good idea of what one out of the eight miles of the Blue Mound course was like...and it got worse from there.

Congrats to Joe, who was among only a handful of riders who didn't flat, finishing 4th in the 3-hour event, Chris followed (after repairing a flat) in 5th.

Jay, Matt, Chad and Tony suffered a combined 6 flats in the 12-hour open event, soldiering on until Matt's final flat at about 6:30 pm.  After checking the board, wisdom prevailed and they called it a day.

I rode one lap. started a second, but quickly abandoned with a cramp in my arm (legs felt fine, but this course didn't really use any legs).

At the end of the day, the feeling was mutual...never going back there again.

Blue Mound WEMS

Because last week's Fat Tire Forty was just a warmup, why not join us from some punishment at Blue Mound?

Jay, Matt and Joe will likely join us, and our buddy Chris Tamborino will be flying, too.  Wizards beware!

Cheq Fat Tire

The place to ride this weekend was north and west; the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival.

A contingent of riders from Mountain Outfitters completed the ride in style:

Joe Riesberg - 2:43, 15.0 mph paced the group;
Curt Allison - 3:04;
Rob Mautz - 3:05;
Steve Loos - 3:06;
Russ Sobotta - 3:43.

In the Short & Fat, Lizzy Sobotta finished 4th in her age group, while her brother Ted rolled in 16th in his.

And congratulations to Sara Riesberg, who is getting a new mixer as the price for Joe's successful essay that got him into the race!
